CALLING ALL FORMER BAND MEMBERS
The David and Mary Thomson C.I. Senior Band would like to invite all alumni who played in the music program in past years to an open rehearsal on Wednesday, April 29 at 3:30 pm in Room 133. We are performing in the auditorium ceremony on May 2. In addition to O Canada and the School Song, we will perform an original composition by our band director, Brooks Gorst, entitled “Fanfare for a Reunion” and a concert selection, “Flight of Valor,” by composer James Swearingen. We will have a brush-up final run-through on Saturday morning, May 2 at 11:00 (for an hour or so). If you have any questions, you can contact Brooks at: Brooks.Gorst@tel.tdsb.on.ca
CAR PARK OPTIONS AND TRANSIT ACCESS
Parking for the school events: There is quite a bit of room in the Thomson parking lots, especially the upper lot behind the school. Marshalls will be on hand to guide you. Once the lots are full, the next choice will be in the parking lot at the new mosque across Lawrence and a bit west. They have kindly given us permission to use it and we expect to have marshalls on hand there as well. As a third choice, if you don’t mind a bit of a walk, use the lots at Bendale BTI on Midland north of Lawrence or at the old Highbrook and Donwood schools, off Dorcot north of Thomson, and walk across the back campus.
Parking at the Embers for Pub Night: There is very limited parking around the banquet hall itself. There is a stoplight on Warden at the hall, with a large parking lot across on the west side of the street. Unfortunately, construction on the new Lowes store will not likely be complete by May 2, so the closest section of this lot will still be blocked off. There is still lots of room further north by Payless Shoes, Reitmans and Mark’s Work Wearhouse, with an entrance off Warden a bit south of Eglinton. Again, the walk will do you good!
Public Transit: Take the Bloor-Danforth subway and the Scarborough LRT to Lawrence and either a Lawrence bus or simply a brisk walk east 3 or 4 blocks. The subway can also get you to the Warden station for the Embers, with a bus connection north on Warden or, again, a 15-minute walk.
PHOTOS AT THE REUNION
Bringing your camera to the festivities May 2nd. Share your photos with others on this web site. E-mail them (info@thomsonforever.ca) and our webmaster will post them as mementos of the event.
SHARE YOUR MEMENTOS!
The reunion committee invites your participation to post photos and mementoes in the decade rooms. Please e-mail info@thomsonforever.ca with a list of your suggested items. A committee representative will contact you to confirm arrangements.
GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
While you are recalling old times with fellow Thomsonites at the reunion, you may wish to take a moment to remember those no longer with us. In each of the Decade Rooms, there will be a bristleboard mounted on which you can write in their name(s). This advance notice will allow you to come prepared, if you want them to be remembered.
WANT TO BE IN PRINT?
PLEASE NOTE: THIS OFFER IS NOW CLOSED – THE DEADLINE HAS PASSED – WE PRESENT THE COMMENTARY BELOW FOR HISTORICAL RECORD ONLY.
Here’s a chance for ex-Thomsonites to get involved in the 50th anniversary, regardless of where you live. We are putting together a souvenir booklet as one of the mementos you may wish to purchase to celebrate the occasion. But you may also wish to be in the booklet! Do you have a special memory or memories of Thomson to share? People, events, atmosphere, whatever. Do you have a photo or other visual memento that could be included in the booklet?
If you are inspired to contribute in this way, here’s what we invite you to do: Send an email to stanleyfarrow@rogers.com. Include your name, the years you attended Thomson, and, if you wish, a quick update on what you are doing now or have done since Thomson. (We think the various career paths of our alumni/ae are as interesting as their memories.) Then, if you have memories, 3 or 4 paragraphs or so, you can send them as an attachment or in the body of your email. (Stan has a Mac using Appleworks, so be forewarned.) If you have visuals, a jpeg attachment would be the most convenient format, if possible.
We will try to include everyone in the booklet but reserve the right, depending on the response, to edit material to fit on the number of pages we have available. We also have a fairly short timeline for putting the booklet together. Please forward any material to Stan by February 28.
