Thomson Robotics Team appeals for alumni assistance in prestigious national competition

We are pleased to draw attention of all Thomson alumni to this appeal by Edmund Kim, science teacher and leader of the Thomson Robotics Team.

Mr. Kim is asking for any and all assistance (technical, logistics, financial) from alumni or the greater community in support of his students who are participants in the upcoming FIRST Robotics Competition.

Please read full details of this program and Mr. Kim’s appeal in the letter below:

The Thomson Robotics Team has entered the renowned FIRST Robotics Competition. In preparation for the event, the team is very interested in contacting any interested Thomson alumni who can kindly afford some time please to support the team in form(s) of mentoring capacities (e.g. building, electrical, mechanical, programming, others) and/or financial sponsorship.

I am hoping to ask for your assistance please as well to reach out to other alumni who could potentially be interested to offer support to the Robotics Team.

In accordance with rules of FIRST, all teams have a six-week window (January 3 to mid-February, 2015) to build a robot to perform the task. We are please to announce our participation in the Greater Toronto East Regional in Oshawa from March 11 to 14, 2015.

In my years of teaching at Thomson since 2001, this is our first time entering a robotics competition of this renown. Needless to say, the team is very excited but acknowledge the many challenges in the coming months.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated! Please feel free to pass along my contact information (edmund.kim@tdsb.on.ca or 416-396-5525 x20251) to any alumni potentially interested in supporting the Thomson Robotics Team. Thank you very much for your time and attention.

More information about the FIRST organization and the tournament can be found at this link: www.firstroboticscanada.org/main/frc/
